Located just 1 hour 25 minutes from Paris by high-speed train (TGV), Rennes is the ideal destination for visiting Brittany’s legendary sites: in less than an hour from Rennes you’ll be in Saint-Malo and on the beaches of the Emerald Coast, at the heart of the mythical Broceliande Forest, the birthplace of Arthurian legends, or gazing over towards Mont-Saint-Michel. Rennes also lies at the crossroads of the region’s main cycling routes. Its privileged location makes Rennes the Goldilocks of tourist destinations: “just right” for discovering all the treasures of Brittany.
Rennes is a multi-faceted city of many influences, a pleasantly sized city with a strong Breton character. A lively, student city, a hot spot for food lovers and host to a number of festivals all year round. The economic and cultural capital of Brittany has also managed to retain its small-town atmosphere, where everything can be done on foot. With its pedestrianised streets, squares, monuments, colourful half-timbered houses and lively terraces, Rennes will charm you with the originality of its heritage and the hospitality of its inhabitants.
Enjoy a 3-course Welcome Dinner this evening at La Brasserie de la Paix. Dinner this evening is inclusive of one aperitif (sparkling kir, beer or wine), three appetizers, one bottle of wine per four persons, one bottle of water per four persons and coffee.
A true Rennes institution, the Café de la Paix is located within the Palais du Commerce in the city center. Despite its complex construction over the years, the Palais is a popular meeting place and attracts a lot of attention. Situated in the heart of the city center and on the banks of the Vilaine River, it is an extremely busy spot.
But if the Palais du Commerce attracts crowds, it's also because it houses the Café de la Paix! For a bit of background, its original name was the Grand Café de la Paix, and its purpose was to welcome Rennes' high society. This objective has remained unchanged over the years: to target an upscale clientele. The Café de la Paix (Peace Café) owes its name rather ironically. Indeed, during the summer of 1899, prominent figures attending the review of Captain Dreyfus's trial gathered there daily. A true focal point of the city, the Café de la Paix is perhaps even more legendary than the Place de la Mairie (Town Hall Square) itself.
Located in the heart of one of France's most vibrant cities, this restaurant is a renowned gastronomic landmark and a place that knows how to cultivate the art of living. Your taste buds will particularly appreciate the traditional influences combined with a touch of exoticism.
